A little bit of history...

Marvel Comics is a North American comic publishing. It created several emblematic heroes. The firm has its headquarters in New York.

In 1939, Martin Goodman founded the company which later would become Marvel Comics. At first, it was named Red Circle Comics and Atlas Comics. However, the most popular name was Timely Comics.

In of the first comics appeared one of the most famous hero, The Human Torch, as well as his enemy, the villain Namor. Another of the first heroes was Captain America.

During the 50s, due to the Second World War, Marvel decayed at a point it was almost going to close. But during the 60s, it started recovering. At that time, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the Fantastic Four, which was a big success. As a consequence, the company started publishing several titles of comics such as The Amazing Spider Man.

The 70s were hard times for the company again. At the end of the decade, Chris Claremont and John Byrne started to spread out an old Marvel title, the X-Men, which became the biggest success at that time.

During the next years, Marvel knew successful times and bought its heroes to the cinema such as Spider Man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four.

Today, the company is one of the most important publishings in the world of comics.

The Walt Disney Company acquired Marvel in 2009.
